Democracy is dead, long live the Prime Minister!

Prime minister Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe has won the motion of no confidence against him yesterday night. Throughout the day, during the parliamentary debate, he was ably defended by his former enemies turned close friends such as Mr Mangala Samaraweera and Dr Rajitha Senaratne. Not so surprisingly, all the so-called minority parties voted against the no confidence motion, proving the fact that they are just an extended arms of foreign interests. They made the hay while Mr Wickramasinghe was in trouble.

Members of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party- Mithree section was a divided lot. Some powerful leaders such as Mr Susil Premjayantha, Mr Anura Yapa, Mr Jhon Senevirathne, Mr S.B Dissanayake voted for the no confidence motion, while 22 members comprising the minority MPs opted stay away from the vote.   Once again it proved the fact that President Mithreepala has no political principles, but thinking only of his own survival. It is high time for someone to hand over an impeachment against the president!

It is apparent that most of the agitators who raised their voice against the Prime minister changed their mind just before the vote. As observed by most of the interested parties, millions of rupees would have changed hands. Money talks, we listen with interest!

Having won the vote, now it is the worst time for Mr Wickramasinghe. He has to deliver the goods. Electronic media are broadcasting the promises he made to the minority parties. Those are very harmful for the national security integrity.  On the other hand, members of the United National Party have openly saying that they support the Prime minister because has has promised to elect new leader to the party. Imagine one fighting a ferocious battle to win that and handover all the spoils to a new leader??

If the Prime minister is adamant in fulfilling all those promises he made to the minority parties and his own party members, it is a very interesting phenomena. He has to take decisions to destroy the country by fulfilling the promises made to the minority parties. He has to resign from the party leadership next. Cost of wining the battle is too much. Victory is not so sweet when your soul is mortgaged to the devil!

Knowing Mr Wickramasinghe, one could assume that he is not serious in fulfilling his promises. He may forget about the democracy in his party and democracy in country at large. As Mr Vimal Weerawanse reminded us yesterday, he will be old Ranil again tomorrow! He will walk a tight rope making more and more enemies.

Mr WIckramasinghe has won the battle, however will he win the war??

Ignorance of a Parliamentarian

Dr Harsha de Silva spoke in the parliament yesterday. He was asking from the house, "wherever in the world a government minister votes against the government in a motion of no-confidence"? (please watch the video from the 27th minute). Dr Harsha was telling us that the participation of members of the government against the government itself has never occurred before. Poor man is thinking that only opposition members vote against the government during a vote of no-confidence.

We must remind him that sensible governments does not bring no confidence motions against their opposition. Almost always it is the the job of opposition to bring no confidence motion against the government.

Poor Doctor should know that in the United Kingdom (where he canvassed unsuccessfully against the "Brexit" referendum using Sri Lankan tax payers money), under the fixed-term Parliaments act 2011, only a motion explicitly resolving "that this house has no confidence in Her Majesty's Government is treated as a motion of no-confidence! Yes Doctor, not against the opposition, but against the GOVERNMENT!

In our parliamentary system, political party or parties who have secured the majority in the house is invited to form a government. Unless it is a minority government, the ruling party or collation has more than half of the seats.

Any opposition who tables a no confidence-motion must secure votes from the ruling party members if they want to succeed. If the opposition can win the vote only by their own votes, they do not have to sit in the opposition!

Dr Harsha was talking about the history. He has forgotten that in 1964, Mr C. P. De Silva, a minister of Mrs Sirima Bandaranayike's government and thirteen other government party members voted along with the opposition. We must remind Dr Harsha De Silva that  during the 1964 no-confidence motion, his colleague Mr Mangala Samaraweera's father Mr Mahanama Samaraweera also voted against his government.

Yes Doctor, sorry to disappoint you, but the government Ministers do sometimes vote against the government. Some treat them as heroes while others treat them as traitors. Defectors always claim that they are voting for the betterment of the country while their enemies claiming perks, loads of money and women are involved.

Nasty world we live in, isn't it?

Never quit....

Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe is NOT going to quit. That is what we hear in the media.

Apparently, Sri Lanka Freedom Party has appointed  minister for Transport and aviation Mr Nimal Siripala De Silva as their represntative to meet Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe and ask him to resign from the post of Prime minister. It is reported that Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe has turned down Mr Nimal Siripala De SIlva's request and informed that he will face the no-confidence motion in the parliament tomorrow.

It is a well known fact that Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe is a seasoned campaigner in the parliament and an expert in manipulation of members of the parliament.

I am sure there is no connection between The minister for Transport and Aviation Mr Nimal Siripala De  Silva challenging Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe and sudden industrial action of the Bandaranayike International Airport workers and crippling the day to day operations of the airport.

As mentioned by the leaders of the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna, members of the parliament are being offered handsome gifts. Going rate is from 8 to 20 million rupees.

In 1964 the United National Party has brought forward a no-confidence motion against Mrs Sirima Bandaranayike's government. Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe's father Mr Esmond Mr. Wickramasinghe was instrumental in getting the required votes to bring down the government. He managed to obtain the required numbers. Mr Mangala Samaraweera's father Mr Mahanama Samaraweera was one of the ministers who took whatever given by Mr Esmond Wickramasinghe and voted against his leader Mrs Bandaranayike while Rajapakses joined hands with her.

Today Rajapakses are challenging Mr Esmond Wickramasinghe's son Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe, while Mr Mahanama Samaraweera's son Mr Mangala Samaraweera and Mrs Bandaranayike's daughter Mrs Chandrika Kumaratunge are trying to save him.

If Mr. Ranil Wickramasinghe loses tomorrow he will be chased out of the politics by his fellow party members. However with the billions of rupees "earned" from the Central Bank Bond Scam at his disposal, chances are very slim for him to lose the vote.

Universities are closed.....

Non-academic staff members of the Sri Lankan Universities are on strike. They demand the Government must implement the salary increments promised by then Minister for Higher Education Mr Kirialle without further delay. Said promise was given more than a year ago. Alas, we have a new minister for Higher Education now. The new minister Mr Kabir Hashim is not interested to discuss the issue with the union leaders. The ultimate result is the closure of all the Government Universities for more than 30 days.

Day by day, the higher education of Sri Lankan youth are getting delayed. Not a single member of the government is interested. People say that the powerful ruling party seniors have no children. Those few who have children send their kids abroad for the higher education. Therefore the leaders of the government are not worried.

Our University non-academics have several unions belonging to both the  ruling party and the opposition parties. Industrial action was not started by a single union.  All union leaders were in agreement when they started the strike. One could imagine the situation  of the members belonging to the the ruling party union, the Jathika sewaka sangamaya today!

While the government is ignoring industrial action, the membership of the non-academic unions are facing severe hardships. They haven't got their salary this month. There is no hope of getting the next month salary too. How they are going to Sinhala and Tamil new year.... one wonders.

Rats and mice jumping off the sinking ship

Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe is a lucky man. He is the leader of the United National Party. There are loads of mainstream and social media personal at his disposal. Those media chaps are being handled by competent spin doctors.

They are the people who came up with shiploads of fake news during Mr Rajapakse's government. They planted stories of golden horses, Buckingham palaces  in  America, man eating sharks, Lamborghini cars ect ect. Gullible voters of Sri Lanka were deceived.  Ultimate result was establishing a new government.

One can deceive to achieve high office. However when one is occupying the high office one has no option but to perform. If the person who deceived all the way up to the high office is not capable of delivering goods, what will happen? That's exactly what happened to Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe. Whatever the project he started as the Prime minister was an utter failure. Sometimes with unbelievable bad luck too.

The best example is the Volkswagen saga. One of Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe's stooges Mr Harsha Silva was boasting that he got the world famous Volkswagen automobile company to start a new car factory in Sri Lanka.  Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe gave a government land ( in fact it was disputed land belonging to the government trustee) to a self appointed local agent of Volkswagen Automobiles. Just few weeks after that incident, so called pollution emission scandal hit the Volkswagen Automobiles and now the then worlds biggest automobile manufacturer is bankrupt. Just  Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe's luck.

Going back to the original point, one wonders what will happen to Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe's spin doctors and media gang. Silence observed in social media suggests that the rats and mice are jumping the ship!

Will he resign....

Serial loser Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe is in crossroads. Tomorrow (4th April 2018) he has to face a no-confidence motion in the parliament. One by one, all his backers are leaving the sinking ship.

Opposition MPs belonging to newly formed Sri Lanka Podujana peramuna ශ්‍රී ලංකා පොදුජන පෙරමුණ party claims that the have the support of 116 or more MPs in the parliament. Minimum number of votes needed to kick Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe out of the Prime minister post is 113.

Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe is NOT a natural born leader. He has no idea what is happening at the grassroots level. He can't win elections. He is not a good organizer. He does not listen to people.  Having said that, we have to admit the fact that Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe is very good in manipulating the party leaders and stick in to the leadership of the United National Party at any cost. For this purpose he has a gang of fake news creators and mainstream and social media misinformation spreaders.

Fake news creators are "inventing" news items harmful to Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe's enemies and opponents. Rest of the gang pick up those misinformation or fake news as their references. Altogether they use pack if lies to make a web of illusion.

However, when faced with a real life situation, both the leader Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe and his gang of fake news creators and spin doctors are useless. They can't face the scenario heads on and take the bull by the balls....
All what they could do is to try buying off the MPs by offering them unbelievable amounts of money and other "things". They managed to salvage the lost cause in the past. Yet, this time, the news is no good. The tide is turning at unbelievable rate and force. Therefore the only option available to  Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe is to RESIGN!
