Who let the backbenchers out? Who Who Who.....

Having got the upper-hand during the recently conducted no confidence motion vote, the United National Party  backbenchers are behaving rather bizarre manner.

They lost no time writing a letter to their leader demanding the expulsion of cabinet ministers who voted for the motion. They want to have those portfolios for themselves.  Knowing that their leader does not take their requests seriously, the backbenchers have handed over no-confidence motions against said ministers.

I am sure the Prime minister will ignore such stupid demands. Let's see what happens if the prime minister also decides to back his fellow MPs. At most, all what he could do is to make a request to the president to remove the ministers. If the president refuses that, the prime minster could do nothing. It is similar to the situation where the president wanted to get rid of the prime minister. He asked the Prime minister to go. Prime minister decided to stay. President could do nothing!

Our constitution is rather silly one.  President is the head of the state and the head of the cabinet. He appoints a prime minister. Then the prime minister recommends the MPs to be appointed as the Ministers. Once the president get the prime ministers recommendation, he appoints  cabinet ministers.

When the prime minister wants to sack ministers of President's cabinet, he indicates that to the president.  President could either sack those ministers or ignore the request of the Prime minister.

If the president sack those ministers, he will be powerless in his own cabinet. No one is there to back him. Therefore one could understand that there won't be any sackings of ministers. What would poor backbenchers do now?

  1. Before baking like such brainless stupid moron, could you please read the Report of the Presidential Commission of Inquiry has held on this Central Bank bond Scam?

The former Governor of Sri Lanka’s Central Bank Arjuna Mahendran responsible for causing a loss of which is not less than LKR 11,145 million to public institutions according the reports. This is the least amount & some claim even more. This is the largest ever recorded corruption case in the history of Sri Lanka. Rajapakse gang also said to be extremely corrupted but total amount of their probable amount of loss done to public funds might be much less than this according to the independent experts.

The commission had also noted that Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, who hand-picked Mr. Mahendran for the role, had supported him for wrongdoing.

Further, it recommended legal action against former Foreign Minister Ravi Karunanayake for corruption and providing false evidence in front of the commision.

In August 2017, Mr. Karunanayake, a prominent figure in Mr. Wickremesinghe’s United National Party (UNP), resigned amid opposition and excessive civil society pressure.

He is accused of financial links with bond dealer and son-in-law of Mr. Mahendran, Arjun Aloysius, whose firm Perpetual Treasuries bought over 50% of the controversial bond auction in 2015. The commission has recommended legal action against Mr. Aloysius too, among others.

The Central Bank bond scam was the first major blow to the government and the economy of SL, especially after war ended in 2009. Earlier, in October 2016, a parliamentary Committee on Public Enterprises ruled that Mr. Mahendran was “directly responsible” for the irregularities in the bond sale.

In January 2017, Mr. Sirisena appointed a Commission of Inquiry to probe the matter further, a move that some in political circles saw as a reflection of the growing tension between his Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and Mr. Wickremesinghe’s UNP, coalition partners in the government.

  2. Rajapakse regime also did many bad things but they were able to do some good things at least. But these morons hadn't done any substantial thing useful for the economic development of the nation as many people believe. That's it.

  3. Reforms and restructuring should not be limited to words as happened over last many years but true action as time is running out before next elections. We saw how many UNPers especially young and energetic unlike old hands came out in the open. Those views are temporarily hidden because of the Diyawanna drama and will not hold longer. Remember LG polls results, Bond scam action, COL, taxing and all PROMISES made at last election etc. People do not forget them.
