Will he keep his promises?

During the no confidence debacle Prime minister Ranil Wickramasinghe was listening to everybody and promising the sun and moon. Most of all, he has promised to LISTEN to the party members. Coming from Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe, it is colossal!

United National Party back-benchers were keen to grab the opportunity. Yesterday night itself, thirty two of them have signed a letter demanding Mr Ranil WIckramasinghe to sack those cabinet ministers who voted for the no confidence motion. Naturally according to the promises made by Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe, the back benchers are expecting a favorable response.

Media reports say that the cabinet ministers who have voted for the no confidence motion are not going to resign. What would Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe do? Will he keep his promise and heed to the request made by his back benchers? Or will he ignore them as he used to do in the past and move on?

In fact the problem lies with the constitution. Mr Ranil Wickramasinghe has no cabinet to sack the ministers. He is the Prime minister of President Mithreepala's cabinet. According to our constitution, the Prime minister has no right to sack the ministers. He could make a recommendation to the president to sack the ministers. If the president do not sack his cabinet ministers, Prime minister could do nothing. Imagine a situation where the prime minister recommend the president to sack the ministers but the president refuses to do that. What will happen if such a deadlock between the president and the prime minister takes place?

On the other-hand if the president sack the ministers belonging to his own party and fraction, what will happen to president's own security and political well being??

Facing such a scenario, will the prime minister at least recommend the president to sack those ministers?? If not this may be the first of many promises he is going to  break in days to come!

  1. Ranil has once again proven that he’s the undisputed champion of the Sri Lankan political ring. It won’t be a surprise and it's just a matter of time to see Mr.Ranil just throwing away everything he has promised to everybody. In the end, promises are meant to be broken, isn’t it doc :)

    1. Exactly! That's why they are called PROMISES!

  2. More apparent question should be "Can he keep his promises?"

Any Tom, Dick and Harry can promise sun and moon. The master-minds who orchestrated the win, will they allow?

  3. RANIL and clan is now exactly similar to Congress Party of India.

Mahinda and clan looks like BJP….(No Muslims no Tamils etc.)

Now Mahinda should also go same journey Mr.Modi went. Mr.Modi took Hindu Nationalism to his shoulder and did the campaign. Mahinda should take Sinhala Nationalism openly as now he can see only Sinhalays with him. We have 75% Sinhalayas and only we need 51%. Sinhalayas are angry with Ranil and clan. Mahinda should understand this. We don’t need another Sarwa Aagamika, Sanhindiya type leadership from Mahinda.

  4. Dr Kumara

Those who don’t know politics can laugh at MR. But he is the real winner. He got his side bigger in parliament . Ranil will be under huge preasure now as he has to deliver demands of his party people (true reorganization of party), Demands of Tamil parties, Demands of Muslim parties…Ranil will fail and also further lose popularity among people especially Sinhalese. This will make Mahinda’s life easy for next election victory. Even now Mahinda is the winner as a single political force in ground level. Ranil cannot be very happy about this result of NCM.

UNP supporters also can have some fun only for few days. Let them ENJOY !!!!!!

  5. Agree with Anonymous gentlemen comment above. But in my opinion, MR must be very very serious when concerning the people like SB. In addition to that, MR has to be vigilant about the plots of Brapathi MS for he is fox as well as a jakol.

  6. Mahinda is our Genuine Leader…!

He is not only the leader of Sinhalese, but for every body living in our beautiful motherland...

Dear Tamil and Muslim brothers and sisters..

Try to understand your true Leaders ...

Making use of your Nationality to make their living.

Also the Tamil Diaspora who needs to see ethnic issues in Srilanka to make their living...

You need to support the common leader and find answers for your problems yourself...

Srilanka belongs to everyone of us...

Also try to be true Sri Lankans without blindly coping the cultures to dress codes of other countries...

    We love you...!

    Dr. Sarasa please publish.

  7. We have to be patriotic and survive Dr. Kumara, otherwise we all get wiped out from this country. You could see that all Tamil and Muslim racists are double agents. Their aim is to fulfill their target somehow. Thus the Sinhalese nationalists should have to be super vigilant and super tactics to defeat these minorities ambition. Tamil seperatists want to make Sri Lanka a Tamil homeland and Muslim racusts want make it Muslim country like Maldives. Therefore we all have to get rid of party politics and try to work towards rescuing our mother lanka and no point in talking so called stupid & useless "Sanhidiyawa" bulshit. These people do not want that. They use the word to cheat majority of people and get their goal achieved as soon as possible.

  9. Dear Dr. Kaluarachchi,

Though it appears UNPers all got together after all, Many people got filthy rich thanks to this funny NCM.
This win over the NCM couldn’t have been pulled off without the help of the Central bank sponsorship to UNP via two Arjuns, which would simply be the biggest sponsorship awarded in the history of mankind. Don't you agree with me Dr.?

  11. No one can say JO lost the NCM against Ranil. JO had 54 but they got 76. They shook the SLFP. That is a great acheivment. JO must grab the balance SLFP. Not the present Mps but the people. If that happens then there will not be any SLFP. My3 will have to depend on JO.
